HP TouchSmart IQ770 PC

This is the first desktop PC incorporating a touch-screen that HP has produced. In fact, it’s one of only a few home PCs anybody has produced with a touch-screen. To make this technology worth having, the computer itself has had to be completely rethought. In the process, HP has produced a radically different media PC in the TouchSmart IQ770.
It’s designed to be used as a conventional computer when needed and as a nifty touch-screen Media Center PC with fast, easy access to a wide range of different media and online information. The idea is that you could use it for everything from obtaining a weather forecast before leaving for work through to watching breakfast television or playing a movie, all by tapping the screen in true Star Trek style.

New S-XGen Ultra Mobile

?Whatever it wants to be (mobile phone, PDA, Tablet PC), Seamless Internet announced at CES a new device which they call an ?Ultra Mobile Portable Computer (UMPC)? and which is based on a radically different design. The S-XGen from Seamless Internet a publicly traded company, is the only UMPC of its kind to integrate all of the computing and digital functionality of other UMPCs in a design that offers a near full-size keyboard and an ultra-productive eight-hour battery life.?

From a specifications standpoint, this device falls somewhere in between what we might expect from a Pocket PC and an Ultra Mobile PC. The S-XGen runs Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 as opposed to Windows Mobile and sports the Intel PXA 270 Xscale 520 MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD, 4? 470 x 280 TFT screen. Size and weight are measured at 6.5? x 3.8? and 14oz respectively. Their hook is obviously the fold-out keyboard, though the question you?ll need to ask is if that ultimately helps make this device worth $1400 USD! Thoughts?

Palm Treo 680

A nicely priced smart phone that’s both user- and pocket-friendly.
Design and Ease of Use :
While not nearly as thin as the Samsung BlackJack or Motorola Q, the Treo 680 is certainly sleeker than earlier Palm designs, due in part to its internal antenna. The device weighs 5.5 ounces and measures 0.8 inches thick, compared with 6.3 ounces and 0.9 inches for the Treo 650. The 680 is also easier to hold than the 650, thanks to its tapered design and subtle grooves on either side of the device. All told, the phone isn’t exactly sexy but feels a lot lighter than it looks.

MObile Power Option

?
If there?s one thing that every Windows Mobile device owner wishes they could forget about its battery life. It doesn?t matter if you use your device for productivity, gaming, music, video, or email ? everything takes power. Who wants to think about recharging their devices? There?s nothing exciting about that ? the fun comes in using them! Sadly, battery life still isn?t at the point where a single charge will last weeks, so until that happens we need to have strategies in place for getting as much use out of our Windows Mobile Smartphones and Pocket PCs as possible. If you?re the kind of user who recharges daily from home or work, you may not have to think about battery life much ? even a heavily used Pocket PC or Smartphone should last a full day. If you do any traveling though, or don?t recharge your device every day, there are some power accessories that will make your battery life last a lot longer. There are many companies making accessories like the ones I mention in this article, but I?ve selected Pocket PC Techs accessories to look at for two reasons: they?re very high quality, and they just happen to have sent a few of them my way.

E-TEN Announces the glofiish M700
?
If you were following news last week, you would have heard about rumours of an M700 from E-TEN. This time, it’s official. Much like its pal, the X500, it features quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, GPS (SiRFstar III) with TMC, an FM radio, an integrated camera, and Windows Mobile 5.0, except the M700 has the added bonus of a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. No 3G support, it seems, but it still looks like a great all-in-one device. Interested in picking one up? Expect it to appear in authorized stores this month. A copy of the press release can be found after the break.
